Raja Amari was born in Tunis. After obtaining a Master’s degree in French Literature and Civilisation at the University of Tunis I, she joined La Fémis, where she went on to study film. Her first feature film, Red Satin, earned her several awards and international recognition. Her second feature film Buried Secrets was shown in the official selection of the 66th Venice Film Festival and atMoMa (Museum of Modern Art NY). In 2014, she produced Tunisian Spring for Arte Cinéma. Her latest film, Foreign Body, had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF2016) and was shown in the Forum section of the 67th Berlinale. She is an adjudicator and panellist at La Fémis. In 2019, The Academy of Motion Picture and Science invited her to be one of its members.
